The kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA)

Due to the blessing of the Muslim holy places, the KSA’s can be said to have matches characteristics as a destination of choice for millions of traveling pilgrims.  The nearby city of Al Madinah with its Mosque and the tomb of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), provides an additional attention. To add to the benefits for the national economy, it has two-thirds of the world reserves of oil and natural gas (315 billion barrels of oil and 235 trillion cubic meters of natural gas).

Positioned in the South-Western part of the Asian Continent, the KSA occupies about 2,240,000 square km of the Arabian Peninsula. It has 1700 km of Western Coast along the Red Sea and 560 km of Eastern Coast along the Arabian Gulf. Land boundaries to the South and the North exceed 2,700 km [24]

Transport in KSA

In the past few decades, the KSA has enjoyed widespread improvements to its transport networks and telecommunications systems which have come to provide the necessary infrastructure for rapid development. The communications sector has been a key concern since the inception of the first five-year development plan (1970-1974). By 1987, there were 30,233 kilometers of paved roads linking all main regions of the Kingdom as well as neighboring countries. There were also 886 kilometers of railways linking Riyadh to Dammam to facilitate transportation.

The transportation and communications sector is expected to increase by 2.9 percent annually during the period of the sixth development plan as a result of higher level of economic activity and an anticipated higher demand for communications services [24].

Public Holidays in the KSA

There are two major holidays in KSA:

  • Eid Al-Fitr
  • Eid Al-Adha
